Opening menu items in a new browser tab

Sometimes you'll want to create menu items that open in a new tab as you would with sidebar links. While this is slightly more complex than doing it for a standard sidebar link, it is still easy enough to do.

In this example, we want to open our OFSTED report link in a new tab rather than being redirected away from the cloud site.

1. The first step is to go into your WordPress Dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Menus

2. From here, click Screen Options in the top right-hand corner of your dashboard to display a dropdown.

3. Make sure that the Link Target box is checked underneath 'Show advanced menu properties'.

4. Now simply click the arrow next to your relevant menu item to reveal the link details. A new Link Target dropdown menu will have appeared which you can now use to define how you want that link to open.

That's all you have to do. In future, once you have done this before, you can skip steps 1-3 and move straight on to step 4.
